This policy explains what the African External Security Engagement Observatory (ASEO) website collects when you use it — which is almost nothing. ASEO is a public, static research site with no accounts, no sign-in and no tracking.

At a glance

  • ASEO has no user accounts and nothing to sign in to.
  • We run no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
  • The only things kept on your device are two small flags remembering that you've passed the entrance screen and which language you chose.
  • The site's data is about states and arms transfers — not about you.
  • Questions? Email y.ozturk@erdogan.edu.tr.

01 Who we are

The African External Security Engagement Observatory (ASEO) is an open, academic research project designed and operated by Yunus Ozturk, Ph.D. (Lecturer Dr., Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University). This policy explains how the ASEO website handles information. For any privacy question, contact y.ozturk@erdogan.edu.tr.

02 What this site does

ASEO is a public, static data-visualization website. There are no user accounts, no log-in, no comment forms and no submissions. You can browse every page, chart, map and download without identifying yourself. We do not ask for — and you do not provide — any personal information to use the site.

03 Information we collect

Because the site is static and account-free, we collect no personal information about you directly. The site stores two non-identifying values in your browser's local storage — a flag (aseo.entered) that remembers you have passed the entrance screen so it does not reappear on every visit, and a language preference (aseo.lang) that remembers whether you chose the English or Turkish edition. These values stay on your device; we never receive them.

There is no visitor database. The research database behind the site holds information about states and arms transfers — not about the people who view it.

04 Cookies & local storage

ASEO sets no cookies and uses no advertising or cross-site tracking technologies. The only items we place are the local-storage entrance and language flags described above. You can clear them at any time through your browser settings (clear site data).

05 Server logs & hosting

The site is delivered as static files by our hosting provider (Netlify). As with virtually all web servers, the host may automatically record standard technical request logs — such as your IP address, browser type and the files requested — to operate and secure the service. We do not use these logs to identify or profile individuals.

06 Third-party services

The site is fully self-contained: fonts, charting and mapping libraries, geographic data and all datasets are served from ASEO itself. Your browser contacts no third party other than the hosting provider.

Netlify
Static website hosting and delivery.

The map uses no external tile service, and we embed no social-media widgets, advertising or analytics scripts.

We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising.

07 Data retention

We do not hold personal data, so there is nothing for us to retain about you. The local-storage entrance and language flags remain on your device until you clear them. Hosting request logs are kept only for as long as the provider's standard retention allows.

08 Your rights

Because ASEO does not collect or store personal data, there is generally nothing on our side to access, correct or delete. If you have any privacy question or request, email y.ozturk@erdogan.edu.tr and we will respond.

09 Children

ASEO is intended for researchers, students and professionals and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.

10 International processing

Our hosting provider may process requests on servers outside your country. It applies its own safeguards for international data transfers.

11 Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date.
